⭠ Last week's report

Like last week, the top spot regards a band reunion. But this time is for a group that the writer who compiled the list doesn't like at all, so the write-ups for that will be short. Otherwise, lots of entries on death, movies, TV and tennis.

Rank Article Class Views Image Notes/about
1 Emily Armstrong (musician) 1,428,603 The lead singer for Dead Sara has been enlisted for the revival of a very popular nu metal group (#5) that previously disbanded under tragic conditions.
2 Rich Homie Quan 1,144,320 Atlanta rapper Dequantes Devontay Lamar scored a few hits in the 2010s like "Type of Way", "Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh)" and the team-up with Young Thug, "Lifestyle". He was found unresponsive by his girlfriend after she had taken their son to school, and after being taken to a hospital was pronounced dead at the age of 34 and, in spite of an autopsy, the cause of death is still unclear.
3 The Greatest of All Time 1,087,524 This Kollywood science fiction action film starring Thalapathy in his 68th film in a lead role was released last Thursday. Earlier this year the actor announced his political entry making it his penultimate film (now said to be the last as the actor plans to call-off the next film). This led to his fans celebrating the film worldwide as it might be the last time they get to do so. The film grossed 126.5 crore (US$15 million) in the opening day global box office emerging as the second highest-grossing Tamil film in 2024 and also giving the actor two consecutive films to gross over ₹100 crores in the opening day. The film also set many other records such as the first South Indian film to be shown in more than 20 locations in Norway, including the iSense hall at Odeon Cinemas etc.
4 Deaths in 2024 981,764 When it will be right, I don't know.
What it will be like, I don't know.
We live in hope of deliverance
From the darkness that surrounds us...
5 Linkin Park 967,977 The suicide of Chester Bennington in 2017 led to the disbandment of this band. And then they announced a reunion replacing him with #1.
6 Indian Airlines Flight 814 966,085 Netflix show IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack recalled how 25 years ago an airplane was hijacked by five terrorists from the Harkat-ul-Mujahideen, under support by al-Qaeda (who'd infamously later hijack four planes in a single day), keeping 174 passengers and 11 crewpeople hostage for a week, while stabbing one to death to intimidate everyone else, before releasing them in the Afghan city of Kandahar in exchange for three imprisoned terrorists. The responsible have never been identified.
7 Beetlejuice Beetlejuice 865,176 It's showtime!
Yes, the recently released sequel and the 1988 original were directly above each other in views, allowing a proper summoning of The Ghost with the Most. Life (or afterlife, in this case) is funny like that sometimes. Anyway, after a cartoon and a musical it was finally time for the devious and hyperactive ghost Betelgeuse to haunt the movies again, with Beetlejuice Beetlejuice bringing back director Tim Burton and actors Michael Keaton (Beej himself), Winona Ryder (goth Lydia Deetz, now the host of a supernatural talk show) and Catherine O'Hara (Lydia's stepmom Delia).
8 Beetlejuice 813,131
9 Deadpool & Wolverine 774,393 Two aggressive Mutants teamed up in a movie full of blood, swearing and multiversal shenanigans, and made over a billion dollars, the second highest-grossing movie of the year behind Inside Out 2 (who rightfully became the highest-grosing animation ever, overtaking a very unnecessary remake). The Marvel Cinematic Universe returns later this month with the Disney+ show Agatha All Along.
10 Emma Navarro 756,697 Two American tennis players had their best Grand Slam performances at home during the US Open, a semifinal for Emma Navarro - who at 23 won her first title at the Hobart International in January - and a final for Jessica Pegula - who is 30 and has both 6 career titles and rich parents. Both were ended by the same player, down there after a Bollywood film.
11 Jessica Pegula 754,261
12 Stree 2 743,547 This Bollywood comedy horror film and the fifth installment in the Maddock Supernatural Universe released 3 weeks ago continues its theatrical run as the highest-grossing Hindi film of 2024.
13 Aryna Sabalenka 712,236 Both of the hard court Grand Slams of 2024 were won by this Belarusian powerhouse (still competing for no flag due to an awful thing that doesn't end), who won the Australian Open in January and beat #10 and #11 in succession at Flushing Meadows to take the U.S. Open. Now Sabalenka will certainly aim to take down rival Iga Świątek from atop the WTA rankings.
14 The Deliverance (film) 694,697 This American supernatural horror film, inspired by the Ammons haunting case and starring Andra Day (pictured), was released on selected theaters about 3 weeks ago and was released to Netflix last week.
15 Kaos (TV series) 652,953 This British mythological dark humor television series dealing with corrupt and arrogant gods of Greek and Roman mythology was released to streaming on Netflix last week.
16 India at the 2024 Summer Paralympics 602,904 For all of India's underperformances at the Olympics, their disabled para-athletes have impressive showings at the Paralympic Games. Just this year in Paris (#22) the country had 29 medals, which is the amount they got in the last 52 years of the Olympics! These include 7 golds, 4 in athletics and one each in shooting, archery and badminton.
17 The Perfect Couple (TV series) 579,939 This American mystery drama series, an adaptation of the 2018 novel of the same name by Elin Hilderbrand, premiered on Netflix last Thursday.
18 Trap (2024 film) 541,562 The latest psychological thriller by M. Night Shyamalan, that has been described as "serial killer attends Taylor Swift concert" - or in this case, a pop star played by the director's own daughter Saleka, who also wrote the songs she performs in the movie. After a theatrical run that was a financial success in spite of mixed reviews, Trap was released on video on demand last week.
19 Frances Tiafoe 513,498 Back to tennis with three of the four semifinalists of the US Open's male tournament. The most views came for a surprise entry, an American of Sierra Leonen descent who had just lost the Cincinnati Open to Jannik Sinner (the Italian who leads the ATP rankings and hopes to equal #13 in winning both hard court Grand Slams of the year) and lost an all-US semifinal to Taylor Fritz (who hopes to use the home crowd's support to win his first Grand Slam - but in a spoiler for next week's list, it wasn't meant to be).
20 Jannik Sinner 495,200
21 Taylor Fritz 485,983
22 2024 Summer Paralympics 483,110 A few weeks after the Summer Olympics it's time for athletes with disabilities to get the spotlight, in the same host city. Aside from the United States not being as dominating, a big difference for this year's Paralympics compared to the Olympics was nearly three times more Russians and Belarusians competing for no flag.
23 Jack Draper 478,734 Completing the four US Open semifinalists, #20's adversary was this young Englishman, whose performance was not only his best in a Grand Slam, but the first time a British man reached the semifinals at Flushing Meadows since Andy Murray in 2012. (meanwhile, the British woman who surprisingly took it all in 2021 has struggled to perform well)
24 Chester Bennington 457,351 The singer whose suicide back in 2017 seemed to be the end for his band (#5).
25 Rebecca Cheptegei 453,463 Finishing on a story even sadder than the above (and keeping off The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power): less than a month after running the Olympic marathon, this Ugandan athlete was attacked in her home, doused with fuel, and set ablaze, dying from extensive burns 4 days later at just 33. The police claims it was a domestic violence case, done by her ex-boyfriend after an argument. The mayor of Paris announced the city where Cheptegei ran her last race will honour her memory by baptizing a sports venue with her name.
